Creating supportive environments
This action area focuses on the places or surroundings where people live, work and play. It is about making these environments more supportive and encouraging positive health factors such as decisions and behaviors which impacts on all of us, not just an individual.
By creating supportive environments where people are comfortable to make positive health decisions without compromising themselves is something that this action area aims to create. This area allows everyone an equal opportunity to live in a place where they can easily make better health decision and have the resources they need to do so. E.g. maintaining support services such as Diabetes Australia, Juvenile Institute of Australia, National Diabetes Service Scheme in order to assist people who are suffering from the disease. Others include more nutritious foods at food shops such as school canteens to TNC’s and McDonald's which provide healthier choices of meals. Due to these factors, it promotes ways to avoid risk factors such as high consumption of fatty/ sugar foods, due to the fact that people have more healthy food options to choose from rather than just one type of fatty meal, and they can easily access support services that are always available which makes it more convenient.

Developing personal skills
This area refers to developing individual skills and knowledge so that people can modify their behavior and make responsible health style choices, so they are more likely to have a positive consequence.
Compulsive education at both primary and high school about health such as nutrition, physical activity and the disease itself will enable one to make a positive decision about their health thus avoid risk factors of diabetes such as being inactive or eating unhealthy food. The ‘happy healthy Harold’ also plays an important role as it is an organization that visits various schools to educate students on how to develop health life skills that will impact on their future, as it will assist them into being healthy adults. By educating people and helping them develop good personal skills is something that no social inequalities can trap them from and gives everyone an equal opportunity to progress in their life and be healthy because they have attained valuable knowledge that enables them to be more aware and cautious that those personal skills can be positively utilized.
